Industrial Policy in Italy Between Transition and Competitiveness – Presentation of the LUHNIP 2025 Report – January 14, 2026

Associazione Civita, Piazza Venezia 11 – Roma - Wednesday, 14 January 2026, 16.00 – 18.00

Industrial policy has returned to the center of the European economic agenda. In Italy, too, in recent years, the state has resumed intervention to support investment, innovation, and production transitions. But with what objectives and results?

With institutional greetings from Professor Valentina Meliciani, Director of the Luiss Research Center for European Analysis and Policy (LEAP), the event hosts the presentation of the LUHNIP 2025 Report, a policy-oriented contribution that analyzes the evolution of contemporary Italian industrial policy, its policy architecture, and its connection to a profoundly heterogeneous production system in terms of sectoral and geographical distribution. The Report offers a data-driven interpretation of the limitations of the current approach and suggests a more realistic and selective method to strengthen existing excellence and unlock new growth potential, particularly in currently marginalized areas.

The Report will be presented by Donato Di Carlo, Director of LUHNIP and Report Coordinator, together with Lorenzo Moretti, Report Coordinator at the EUI. A roundtable discussion will follow, featuring Alessandro Fontana, Director of the Confindustria Study Center, Marco Calabrò, Head of the Department for Enterprise Policies – MIMIT, Chiara Criscuolo, Principal Economist, IFC – World Bank Group, Marcella Panucci, Board Member of Monte dei Paschi, Antonella Mansi, Board Member of Nuova SOLMINE and Vice President of Assonime, and Maria Savona, Professor at Luiss.
